Reading Wind and Tide for the Best Fort Lauderdale Beach Day
Fort Lauderdale's sea breeze typically fills in between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m., pushing 12 to 18 knots onshore by mid-afternoon. An umbrella that felt secure at nine o'clock becomes a projectile at three unless it is wind-vented and augered deep.
Tide matters just as much. A high tide near Las Olas narrows the dry sand shelf to a few dozen feet, crowding everyone toward the dune line, while a morning low opens a wide flat that stays firm underfoot.
From June to September, the inland storm line usually rolls east in the late afternoon. Plan the beach block for morning through early afternoon, and use equipment rated to be struck quickly.
Prefer to skip the hauling? wind-vented umbrella and lounger packages.
