Sea Turtle Nesting Season Rules on Broward County Beaches

Loggerhead, green and leatherback turtles nest along Broward County shoreline from March 1 through October 31. Marked nests carry a protective buffer, and Broward County Marine and Environmental Resources monitors both the stakes and the sand around them.

Practically, that means no anchor holes inside a posted nest zone, no gear left on the sand overnight, and shielded or amber lighting for any evening event. Flat, filled sand at the end of the day is not a courtesy; it is what keeps hatchlings from being trapped.

Crews that work the shoreline daily already site canopies outside buffers and strike everything before dusk, which removes the guesswork for visitors who booked a shade structure for the afternoon.
